Shotokan Martial Arts Academy Inc. - Martial Arts: A way of life!

Purpose of Karate

One main purpose of Karate training is to develop

maturity and confidence, which our kids need

tremendously, especially in today's society.  Karate

is founded on scientific principles of movement that

develop the student into an exceedingly well-rounded

individual, both physically and mentally. Through this

art, one can develop unity of mind, body, intellect,

emotions and spirit. Discipline is an excellent route to

achieving humility, respect and virtue.

Shotokan karate was founded by the “master of all masters”

Gishin Funakoshi.  He pioneered for decades to define

karate as not only by a "fast punch" or a "powerful kick",

but through qualities of character.  The Shotokan style is the

traditional Karate based on discipline, confidence, self-esteem, and respect.
